A shocking surveillance video from the Bronx reveals a harrowing carjacking incident that left the victim severely injured. The footage, dated April 24, shows the victim being dragged by his own vehicle as he attempted to prevent a thief from stealing it.
According to police reports, the victim had double-parked his car and left it running while he entered a Chinese restaurant to pick up takeout. The thief, seen exiting the back of an SUV, quickly jumped into the victim’s car. The owner, realizing the theft, sprinted into the frame and clung to the side of the vehicle as the carjacker sped away. Tragically, the victim was eventually thrown onto the street, sustaining critical injuries to his leg and head.
Emergency responders found the victim approximately a block away from the scene and rushed him to Jacobi Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. The stolen vehicle was later recovered abandoned on the northbound Hutchinson River Parkway.
This alarming incident comes amidst a broader announcement by POLICE COMMISSIONER JESSICA S. TISCH regarding historic crime reductions in New York City. On April 3, Tisch revealed that the first quarter of 2025 saw significant declines in overall crime, including a 22.8% drop in robberies and an 11.9% reduction in auto theft.
MAYOR ERIC ADAMS echoed this sentiment in a statement, highlighting the city’s commitment to public safety. “Public safety is the prerequisite to prosperity,” Adams said. “Thanks to the tens of thousands of brave men and women of the NYPD, New York City remains the safest big city in America, and we are only getting safer.”
The NYPD’s precision policing strategies have been credited with driving these record-breaking reductions in crime and violence. Despite this progress, incidents like the Bronx carjacking serve as a reminder of the challenges that remain.
