Minneapolis Police have apprehended a suspect in connection with a mass shooting earlier this week that resulted in three fatalities and two injuries. The arrest was announced late Thursday by BRIAN O’HARA, Minneapolis Police Chief, during a news conference.
The suspect, identified as 34-year-old JAMES ORTLEY, is believed to be responsible for the first of six separate shootings that occurred within a violent 24-hour period in the city. These incidents left at least six others injured. Authorities are currently investigating potential connections between some of these shootings.
Police have indicated that the Tuesday night shooting, for which Ortley is charged, was not a random act. Investigators are also exploring the possibility of additional individuals being involved in the mass shooting.
The U.S. Marshals Service reported that Ortley was arrested around 3:30 p.m. local time on a warrant charging him with multiple counts of second-degree murder. Additionally, he was wanted on a federal warrant for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Online records reveal that Ortley was previously arrested in February on suspicion of participating in a violent robbery spree in Minneapolis. However, he was released without charges after being held for two days.
