A previously deported Mexican national, Samuel Cobos-Carmona, 20, has been arrested in Florida for the violent sexual assault of a 13-year-old boy, authorities announced Thursday. The incident occurred on April 13 in the woods behind a family member’s home in Charlotte County, according to Sheriff Bill Prummell.

Cobos-Carmona allegedly befriended the victim and an 8-year-old child while playing hide-and-seek. During the encounter, he sexually battered the teenager both orally and anally, Sheriff Prummell stated in a video message. The suspect was apprehended on Monday and has since confessed to the crime. He faces charges of lewd and lascivious battery on a victim aged 12 to 16.

Cobos-Carmona initially entered the U.S. illegally in 2021 but was deported to Mexico after being caught. He illegally re-entered the country in 2022 and fled to Florida after evading Texas authorities. In July 2024, he was found in Sarasota but was released under the Biden administration’s “catch and release” policies, Sheriff Prummell revealed.

“This is why myself and my fellow sheriffs in Florida are working with federal partners to remove individuals like this from our communities,” Prummell emphasized. He also criticized sanctuary cities and states for prioritizing the safety of criminal illegal immigrants over American citizens and children. “They ought to be ashamed of themselves,” he said.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office is collaborating with local and federal prosecutors to ensure Cobos-Carmona is imprisoned and, if ever released, deported.
