A Florida man, RICHARD CHRISTOPHER SMITH, 39, of Miami, made an unusual gesture during a high-speed car chase with law enforcement after allegedly stealing items from a convenience store. The incident occurred on Saturday when deputies from the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office responded to a theft report at the Spring Lake Market. Authorities say SMITH allegedly took several items, including alcoholic beverages, before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

As deputies pursued him, SMITH reportedly held a can of Ketel One vodka spritzer out of his car window, offering it to a deputy while driving past. “I was just going to give you a drink, that’s it,” he allegedly said during the chase. The sheriff’s office later quipped, “We don’t know if he was expecting us to just say ‘Cheers!’ and let him go, or what.”
