Law enforcement officials in Pinhes County, Florida, have arrested JAMES FARTHING, a 50-year-old Kentucky man, following an alleged altercation at a resort just days after winning the $167 million Powerball jackpot. The Pinhes County Sheriff’s Office reported that Farthing was charged with felony battery on a law enforcement officer, as well as misdemeanor counts of resisting an officer without violence and simple battery.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening at the TradeWinds Resort in St. Pete Beach, Florida. According to the arrest affidavit filed in Pinhes County Circuit Court, Farthing was involved in a physical altercation with another guest around 11 p.m. When a deputy intervened to break up the fight, Farthing allegedly kicked the officer in the face, striking the right cheek.

Police recounted that Farthing refused to comply after being instructed to turn around and place his hands behind his back. Instead, he attempted to flee the premises. During the altercation, Farthing allegedly punched another individual on the left side of their face with a closed fist.

Farthing’s girlfriend, JAQUELINE FIGHTMASTER, was also arrested and charged with disorderly intoxication. She was later released after posting bond. Farthing, however, remained in custody due to a parole violation stemming from a prior incident in Kentucky, according to reports from FOX 13 in Tampa.

Farthing’s arrest followed his historic Powerball win just three days earlier. He had purchased a $2 ticket at a gas station in Georgetown, Kentucky, and matched all the numbers to claim the $167 million jackpot, the largest ever awarded in the state. Farthing and his mother, LINDA GRIZZLE, had initially celebrated the life-changing win.

Despite his recent fortune, Farthing faces serious legal consequences. His case adds another chapter to the often unpredictable stories of lottery winners navigating newfound wealth and challenges.
