A tragic accident in Toledo, Ohio, has left a local pastor injured and claimed the life of his passenger. PASTOR ANDREW EDWARDS of Northwest Baptist Church was driving home from a Bible study on Thursday when a tree and power lines unexpectedly fell on his vehicle at a stoplight. The incident, described by Toledo Fire and Rescue officials as a “freak accident,” resulted in the death of RICHARD MILLER, 35, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Pastor Edwards was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition but is now stable and responsive. According to a Facebook post by Northwest Baptist Church, Edwards suffered fractures to his clavicle, sternum, and a vertebra in his back. The church also noted concerns about a small brain bleed, which is being closely monitored.
In a heartbreaking update, the church shared, “As hard as this is to believe and share, Bro Richard was taken home to be with the Lord. Pastor Edwards is in critical care—but he is stable and responsive and has movement in all extremities.”
The accident also caused damage to two nearby vehicles, but fortunately, no other injuries were reported.
On Easter Sunday, the church provided a hopeful update, stating that Edwards had been transferred from the ICU to the trauma unit. The neurologist confirmed that the brain injury is no longer an immediate concern. “Pastor Edwards awoke suddenly and expressed his desire to return to his pastoral duties, stating that he has much work to do,” the church wrote. “He was reassured that all responsibilities are being managed in his absence. We give thanks to the Lord for His continued healing and faithfulness.”
Edwards’ family expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of prayers and support during this difficult time. “Your kindness and care mean so much to our family,” they said.
The community continues to rally around the church and the families affected by this tragic event.
