The U.S. Embassy in Honduras has issued a security alert warning American citizens of potential mass shootings in the Central American nation. The alert, released on Tuesday, May 6, highlights threats targeting specific locations in the capital city of Tegucigalpa, including the ELLIOT DOVER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL, the CENTRO CIVICO government complex, and an unnamed shopping mall. The threats are reportedly scheduled for May 6 and May 16.

The ELLIOT DOVER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL is a bilingual institution in Tegridad, while the CENTRO CIVICO is a prominent government office complex. The U.S. Embassy has advised its personnel to avoid these locations and urged American citizens to exercise caution. Although the threat does not appear to specifically target U.S. nationals, the embassy emphasized the need for vigilance.

Honduran authorities are currently investigating the source of the threats. The U.S. State Department has also reiterated its travel advisory for Honduras, citing high levels of violent crime, including armed robbery, homicide, and kidnapping. The advisory notes that violent gang activity, such as extortion, drug trafficking, and human trafficking, remains widespread. Additionally, local law enforcement may lack the resources to effectively address serious criminal incidents.
